PHILIP ANSELMO: 'I Don't Want To Be Seen As The Fool Anymore'
December 5, 2007Headbanger's Blog has posted the remaining six clips of the boxing ring footage of DOWN/ex-PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo that was shot for a mid-November episode of "Headbanger's Ball". The first two feature the singer answering questions he's been asked 100 times before. But in the last four segments, Anselmo faces the unique challenge of training a boxer known as The Anvil.
A boxing fanatic since before he was in PANTERA, the singer jumped at the opportunity to get in the ring and offer some pointers to an aspiring champion.
Watch the six clips below.
When asked about the recording process for the new DOWN album, "Over the Under", Anselmo said, "This is the first record I've ever done bone sober — no time to drink for this kid anymore. Which feels great, by the way — no more hangovers, for God's sake. In my old age, I get those three-day hangovers… Hooooooh... no more of that." Voice in the background asks: It's important to you? Phil replies: "Very important to me. To have a clear mind and public image. I don't wanna be… You know, I realized the past. And with the past came the legendary drinking that PANTERA did, and there was no harder drinking in the history of music than PANTERA — EVER! And I guess some people can do that forever… I can't. I don't want to. I don't want to be seen as the fool anymore."
